How of Happiness, Pt. 2

Last week I told you about the idea that we can control 40 per cent of our own capacity for happiness. It’s in a new book The How of Happiness by psychologist Sonja Lyubomirsky. She says the way you think about your life is more important than your objective circumstances, and she has a number of strategies designed to increase happiness. Expressing gratitude is at the top of the list along with cultivating optimism, practising acts of kindness,nurturing social relationships, learning to forgive, living in the moment, savouring life’s joys, committing to your goals, and taking care of your body. The author says it takes a lot of effort and determination to do these things. But do them long enough, and they’ll become habits – healthy new habits that will make you happier.
