After sailing across the Atlantic, our Cocktail Maestro Norm Owen has returned to us at last. This Saturday at 6:30pm on Dinner Classic he warms us up with some delicious ideas for that classic winter drink, the Hot Toddy!
Norm’s Hot Toddy
1.5 oz Bourbon, or Blended Scotch (single malt would be a waste here)
.75 oz lemon juice
.75 oz honey syrup (that’s 1 part honey and 1 part hot water mixed together)
Pour ingredients into your favourite mug, top with hot water, stir, and enjoy!
Add a cinnamon stick, star anise or clove to enhance the flavours.
Norm also suggests a couple of ways to make it more fancy:
Make a honey-ginger syrup to use instead of the honey syrup. Take equal parts honey, hot water and chopped ginger and blend until smooth. Strain to get rid of the ginger fibres, and voila!
Also, you can steep the spices into the syrup before using. Just put the syrup on the stove – avoid boiling – add the cinnamon and/or star anise and/or clove and let them simmer until the flavours combine. Yum!
