The Manhattan. This week, Cocktail Maestro Norm Owen talks us through one of Kathleen’s favourites – the Manhattan!

The Classic Manhattan:
2 oz rye or bourbon
1 oz sweet (red) vermouth
2-3 dashes Angostura bitters.

Stir in a mixing glass on ice. Strain into a rocks glass or into a coupe. Garnish with a maraschino cherry and enjoy!

Norm recommends trying Rittenhouse Rye with Carpano Antica Formula vermouth – amazing!

The Perfect Manhattan:
1.5 oz Rye
1 oz sweet vermouth
1 oz dry vermouth

Stir in a mixing glass on ice. Strain into a rocks glass. No garnish.

Some Manhattan variations:

The Toronto Cocktail:
2 oz American rye
.25 oz Fernet Branca
.25 oz Simple syrup
1 dash Angostura Bitters

Stir in a mixing glass on ice. Strain into a coupe and enjoy.

The Red Hook:
2 oz Rye
.5 oz Maraschino liqueur
.5 oz Punt e Mes

Stir in a mixing glass on ice. Strain into a coupe and enjoy!
