This week, Cocktail Maestro Norm Own explains that there is one – and only one – way to make a classic martini. Anything else is a variation. Here is the definitive recipe:
The Classical Martini
2 oz Gin
1 oz Dry (white) Vermouth (make sure it is fresh! i.e. hasn’t been sitting at the back of the cupboard for months)
1 dash Orange Bitters
STIR on ice – contrary to what 007* says, shaking will make your martini cloudy.
Strain into a coupe. Garnish with a lemon twist
*Also contrary to what James Bond says, a “vodka martini” is NOT a martini; its real name is “The Kangaroo”…
