Leonard Bernstein during the recording of West Side Story (featuring Kiri Te Kanewa, Jose Carreras, and Tatiana Troyanos)
Host Alexa Petrenko features Leonard Bernstein on her next edition of “Sunday Night at the Opera”. In her words:
“The American conductor, composer, pianist, writer, teacher, activist, and intellectual icon Leonard Bernstein would have turned 100 this August 25. The most important musician of his generation, he loved NYC, and wrote musicals as well as “serious” classical music. We’ll listen to the operatic cast version of his musical West Side Story, which he conducted himself in 1985, with Kiri Te Kanawa, Jose Carreras and Tatiana Troyanos. Hip, jazzy, serious, fun, and distinctly American. Happy Birthday Lennie!”
Sunday Night at the Opera airs at 8 PM.
