As you begin going outdoors more, Toronto Public Health and the province are encouraging residents to be informed about where blacklegged ticks can be found and take precautions to avoid getting a tick bite and possibly Lyme disease.
These ticks are usually found in bushy or wooded areas where there are lots of leaves on the ground or tall grasses.
While areas of the city where ticks can be found and their populations in general have increased; especially in the east-end of the city, the overall risk of getting Lyme disease in Toronto is low.
However the odds increase if one’s out in wooded and busy areas, where ‘Get Tick Smart’ signs have been posted as a reminder to take protective measures.
