A new online campaign has decided to work towards setting the music of composer Frederic Chopin free. By this, we mean allowing musical lovers to download, buy and distribute music from the romantic composer. Currently, only Chopin’s sheet music is available to the public, the rights to the music and the music itself is restricted under heavy copy-righted laws.
This means that Chopin’s music can’t be remixed or used in personal videos such as ones we would find on YouTube.
The non-profit organization behind this worthy cause? Musopen, a San Francisco based company who inteads to raise $75,000 by October 21, 2013 in order to make Chopin’s music ‘free’. Currently, they have raised over $50,000!
