The public will have the rare chance to view the manuscript for one of JS Bach’s late canata’s. The manuscript is open to public at Christie’s in London prior to its sale on June 13th.

The manuscript is the Taille part for Iche liege den Höchsten von ganzem Gemüte. It has been sixteen years since one of Bach’s manuscripts has appeared on the open market. Margaret Ford, head of Printed Books and Manuscripts at Christie’s expects that it will be bought by a collector.

“Whether the manuscript is bought by an institution that is able to afford it limited exposure, or bought by a collector only to disappear underground for several further generations, it is nevertheless the case that this sale is one of a shrinking number of opportunities to see the confident sweep of Bach’s handwriting listing slightly to the right, on the same, slightly browning paper he used for all his scores, whether transcribed himself or by his amanuenses.”
