Live From the Concert Lobby: Murray McLauchlan

On Wednesday, November 9, 2011, Canadian folk legend Murray McLauchlan will be performing music from his new album live in our Concert Lobby from 2 to 3PM EST.

The performance comes at the heels of the recent release of his new album, Human Writes. Inspired by a recent brush with death, McLauchlan mines inspiration in getting older and the issues that came form that.

Described not only as a songwriter but as “a myth-teller [who] inhabits, as all true artists do, the middle space between the world as it is and how it ends up in the songs.” (Noah Richler’s words, not ours.)

Here are a few things you may not know about Murray McLauchlan:

  • “Human Writes” is his first album in 6 years
  • Murray was born in Paisley Scotland in 1948 and raised in Toronto, ON
  • He has won 11 Junos to date and has received 24 nominations
  • He is well known for his earlier work, including “The Farmer’s Song” and “Child’s Song”
  • He is part of “Lunch At Allen’s”, a songwriting group that features Marc Jordan, Cindy Church and Ian Thomas
  • In 1993 he was made a Member of the Order of Canada

Here’s Murray playing live in Moncton earlier this month:
