As a result of listening to the advertisement of Tom’s Place on Classical 96.3 I decided that this was the only way I would get my husband to go shopping and buy a new sports jacket was that he might get a “real bargain”. My husband of 5 years had been wearing the same jacket for the same 5 years and it was looking a little “tired”, needless to say as I was tired of looking at it. So, one Sunday afternoon we visited Tom’s Place and what a memorable experience. My husband met Tom, they knew several people in common etc. and would you believe my husband walked out of the store with not only 1 but 2 lovely jackets. The problem now, is that he wears them all the time. Thank you Tom for the wonderful experience and the pleasure of my husband enjoying his new jackets. A gift for his birthday!

My great-grandmother lived on Augusta Avenue in the market when she immigrated to Canada 100 years ago! My grandmother, and mother were born, and grew up in that very same house. I was born a little farther north, on Manning Ave., but we would still come and do all our shopping in Our Market. I have fond memories of playing in the park, and going to the Kiever Shul, which my great-grandfather helped build.
When my own sons were to be Bar Mitzvahed 10 years ago, Tom’s Place was the only place where the staff took the time, and patience to seve us properly. So naturally, when my daughter got married 3 years ago, we took everyone down to Tom’s Place for new suits, and clothes, including my new son-in-law, and in-laws. It was so much fun, especially afterwards, when we walked through the Market, and my boys couldn’t get over the selection to Global Cheese! The crowds, the smells, the flavours, are so unique to this historic part of our city. I myself, teach English to new immigrants, and always include a tour of the Market as part of my curriculum. Thank you Tom, for helping to save and promote this most unique area, and I enjoy listening to you every morning while I drive to work on 96.3!
