If you’re like most women, you probably worry about your weight. I know I do. A new Ipsos Reid survey finds that a staggering 80% of women of all ages and sizes want to lose weight. However, the reasons for that change as we get older. Dietitian Dr. Gail Marchessault says boomer women want to shed extra pounds for their health while younger women are more concerned about the way they look.
“I think that’s moving us towards body acceptance, and I think that’s a good sign, that we’re wanting to lose weight for health reasons, rather than to feel better about ourselves.”
Still, only 53% of boomer women accept their current weight.
“My message to them is to focus on healthy behaviours – focus on liking their body, and then taking care of their body by doing healthy behaviours.”
