GI Diet

This is the time of year when we keep hearing about new diets that promise revolutionary results. The best-selling author of the GI or Glycemic Index diet – which has sold millions of copies around the world – is out with a new book. It’s called the GI Diet Clinic and it follows a group of overweight people as they lost an average of 25 lbs and 10 inches in the first 13 weeks. The premise of the diet is is that foods have to be grouped according to how quickly they break down into glucose to form energy.

“I decided to colour-code all foods into the three traffic-light colours. Red light foods, you don’t go there, those are the high GI foods, the yellow light foods, occasionally, and green light foods, the ones you eat – as much as you’d like basically. The low GI foods are typically most fruits and vegetables, pasta, whole-grains, nuts, legumes, particularly beans, and low-fat dairy products.”

The promise of this diet is that it will never leave you hungry.
