If we canvassed the world, do you think we’d find even ONE person who didn’t like the work of Vincent Van Gogh? There might be such an individual, but I have to then ask ‘why?’ Was that person devoid of understanding? Of empathy?
It seems that whereas we may care a great deal about MANY artists, van Gogh has a special place in our collective consciousness that is independent of where we came from; our education or lack of it; our wealth or poverty; and even the level of our intelligence. There is something inherent in his art that bypasses all of that to lodge directly in whatever it is that makes us human.
