Theatre Gargantua is top of the line when it comes to multidisciplinary original works, dazzling technical wizardry, and imaginative physicality.
At the heart of the company is the talented husband and wife team of director Jacquie P.A. Thomas and playwright/set designer Michael Spence.
Subject matter is always provocative. The new show Imprints is inspired both by genetic coding and Alice in Wonderland, a sort of a DNA trip down the rabbit hole.
Lily, played by Stephanie Belding, has a life-threatening disease. She is cryogenically frozen until a cure can be found. In this icy sleep, Lily enters her DNA, where she meets the ghosts of her ancestors. It’s a harrowing journey, but in the process, Lily discovers what created her genetic disorder.
There is one weakness in the script. It takes a trifle too long for Spence to get to explanations, but that aside, there is never a dull moment on stage.
Theatre Gargantua continues at Factory Studio Theatre until Nov. 26.
