Ross Petty Productions – Peter Pan

Peter Pan, Ross Petty’s annual pantomime this year bills itself as “The Family Musical That’s Silly. Very Silly!” – and that it is. It also has one of the sharpest scripts in recent memory courtesy writer Chris Earle. From an adult point of view, I really enjoyed the sophisticated, updated illusions, but more to the point, so did the children. I also noticed that adolescents and teens were amused and they are the ones usually the most disdainful of panto. Director Susan H. Schulman has built in lots of high jinks that amuses everyone.

Skater Kurt Browning turned out to be a charming performer in the lead role. Eddie Glen is always on hand, this time as Nana/Smee, and of course Capt. Hook/Mr. Darling, is deliciously played by Petty himself. The rest of the cast is just fine, and having child actors as Michael and John is also a bonus.

Peter Pan continues until Jan. 6.
